The first assignment (Homework 0) is simply an agreement to the ethics statement on the course syllabus.

1. Place the following statement in your submission (and read it):

This course considers topics involving personal and public privacy and
security. As part of this investigation we will cover technologies whose abuse
may infringe on the rights of others.

A key component of teaching the responsible use of these technologies is
adherence to ethical principles. Unethical behaviors include, but are not
limited to, circumventing existing security or privacy measures for any
purpose, disseminating, promoting, or exploiting vulnerabilities, or engaging
in activities that could harm individuals or institutions. Exceptions to these
guidelines are limited to the responsible disclosure of vulnerabilities
through recognized and authoritative channels.

Any activity outside the letter or spirit of these guidelines will be reported
to the proper authorities and may result in dismissal from the class. This is
a very serious issue – violations may not just be immoral, they may violate
federal laws.

If you are uncertain about whether a specific action aligns with these
guidelines, you are strongly encouraged to consult the course instructor for
guidance. Do not engage in any activities that could be interpreted as
technological misuse without explicit written authorization from the
instructor.
